Pearce had his 4 year well check on Wednesday. Pearce knew he would get two shots on this visit, but we kept telling him it was no big deal and then afterwards, for being brave, he would get to go to Build-A-Bear. As always, Pearce was so great at the doctor. The nurse first asked him several questions....What's your full name? How old are you? Then she asked him all of his colors, which he knew. Then he did an eye exam. Pearce and I stood about 5 feel back from a chart with capital letters on it going from big to small. The nurse gave Pearce a card that had 4 letters on it. Whenever she pointed to a letter, Pearce had to point to the matching one on his card. I really didn't know if he would be able to do this because we hadn't done anything like that before, but he did great! When he got to the very smallest letters, he missed a few, but the nurse said that was totally fine. Dr. Sperling came in and asked him a few questions, too. She asked if he knew who a stranger was. Again, I didn't think he would know that because I really hadn't talked to him about strangers yet. But, he said "That's a person you don't know." Good boy! Then Dr. Sperling asked if he had ever been lost from me. No, he said....which is true. She asked what he would do if he ever did get lost. He had no idea. So, Dr. Sperling told him that if he ever got lost, he needed to find a Mommy with kids because mommies will always help. She told him he should say to the mommy, "I can't find my Mommy, can you help me?" I definitely need to practice this with Pearce. Later, when we were at the mall, I asked Pearce what he would do if he got lost and couldn't find me and he said "I find a Mommy and say I can't find my mommy, would you please help me?" So, he definitely listened to Dr. Sperling and I just need to keep practicing this with him. Dr. Sperling finished her exam and told me Pearce was right on track with his growth! Finally, it was time for the shots. The nurse went to get them and this is when Pearce started crying :( I just held him until she came back with them. Even though he was crying pretty hard, he never thrashed or threw a big fit. He let me lay him down on the table and I just held him and thankfully, the nurse was so fast! He got a shot in each thigh and afterward, through his crying, he told her "thank you." My sweet little boy :) Pearce got to get a toy from the treasure chest and then we were off to the mall for Build-A-Bear!

Pearce was looking so forward to going to Build A Bear! Pearce looked and looked and then decided on a tiger. He took "Tigey" to get him stuffed, then picked out a heart and a cotton candy smell to put inside him. Next it was time to give Tigey a bath and pick out his clothes. Pearce got picked out a set of superhero pajamas, slippers, plus a sleeping bag...oh and a pair of undies! Pearce had so much fun and I had fun watching him. He's been sleeping with Tigey instead of blankie. That's another thing age 4 has brought...no more blankie :( Makes me sad, but he's actually done pretty well. The first two night were rough, but now that he has Tigey to hold on to, he seems to be ok. It's so tough to become a big boy!
