My first baby items!

My mother-in-law came for a visit this past weekend.  She said she wanted to do some "baby shopping," but I really didn't know what we could get since it's still pretty early.  Well, we got PLENTY!!!  I got my diaper bag, my baby book, a pregnancy journal, 3 new pairs of comfy "school" shoes, and maternity clothes!  I loved picking out my diaper bag.  I wanted something that could almost pass for a purse, but was functional and had enough pockets for baby.  We found it.  I LOVE this bag!  It's a metallic, pewter color.

Then I really wanted to find a baby book because I could start writing in it now and I didn't want to get behind on documenting anything.  We found the perfect book!  It'll work for a girl or boy and has so many neat pages that will be fun to fill out.  Lora also found a pregnancy journal.  Even though I have this blog to document everything, it'll be nice to have a book that is only about the pregnancy.  I have already started filling pages out, of course :)

Oh, and here is a picture of our baby's first set of clothing.  Chris thinks this is the best thing ever :)  The hat and booties are so cute because they are TINY!

And, my birthday present from Lora.  Isn't this bracelet soo cute?  It has pink and blue stones and a baby carriage in the middle :)

We had a great weekend with you, Lora!  Thank you for all of my goodies!!!

Daisy...The Graduate

We adopted Daisy in May from a family in Dallas.  They were overwhelmed with having a puppy, a 3 year old, and a baby on the way.  When we saw the ad for her, we instantly fell in love and were convinced we were the only ones that could give her a good home :)  We brought her home and quickly realized her previous family had done nothing with her...no potty training, manners training, or even just giving her attention.  She is the sweetest thing...just wants to be loved.  Whenever I love on her, she does this funny grunting sound as if to say, "That feels sooooo good."  We first began with potty training.  It took a while as well as lots of accidents, but she got the hang of it and is now fully potty trained.  I then signed her up for dog training.  We went to the same place we trained Otis, Hearts and Paws.  We went every Tuesday night for an hour and we also worked with her on homework.  She definitely doesn't quite have the attention span Otis does, but overall, she did great during class and with her homework.  Last night was graduation.  Each dog had to do a total of 10 commands (in front of everyone) in order to receive their certificate.  I was so nervous about this.  She did the commands at home, but in front of others, she gets easily distracted.  It was our turn to go and I was just praying she would do everything (sit, stand, down, stay, come, high five).  We did all of those commands a total of 10 times and she did great!!!  Everyone was especially impressed with "high five."  I was soooo proud and relieved!  All of the dogs did great!  We will keep practicing what we learned and probably do another class at some point.  I'm proud of my girl!!  Here she is after class with her certificate. She is dog-gone tired!!!!!

13 Weeks, 1 Day!

I have no idea why the lighting is weird in this pic.  Chris took several and they all came out like this.
*I have seen this on other blogs and thought it was so neat to document what was going on each week.  So here goes!*

Pregnancy Highlights

How Far Along:  13 weeks, 1 day
Size of baby:  About the size of a shrimp, 3 inches long

Maternity Clothes:  Yes!  I definitely have to wear maternity pants and I have been wearing maternity shirts, but I can also wear some non-maternity shirts, too.
Gender:  Don't know yet.  I'm guessing boy, though.
Movement:  Not yet
Sleep:  I have to get up several times to go to the bathroom, but I can always go back to sleep.

Perfect Ending to the Perfect Day!

We ordered Chinese for dinner and this is what Chris' fortune said:
I think it should say "lucky" but you get the point!

12 Week Screening

Today I am 12 weeks, 6 days pregnant.  We had our 1st Screening this morning at Texas Perinatal.  I was so anxious, excited, and nervous for this appointment.  I knew that if the baby was growing correctly, it would look like a real baby and not just a blob.  I knew this ultrasound would put my mind to ease if everything looked good.  I hate that I let doubt creep into my mind, but after 2 1/2 years of trying and then doing all kinds of fertility treatments, it's just so hard for me to believe that I actually got pregnant on my own!  I now believe because everything looked great!  The baby was moving all around.  It was at this point that I just relaxed and enjoyed seeing the baby on the monitor.  Then the doctor came in to get the measurement behind the neck.  He said all measurements are within the normal range and that the baby's growth looks perfect.  I just have to wait for the blood test results to come in next week so that we can rule out the major birth defects.  I really have no doubt that everything will be fine.  After the appointment, I went out to lunch with my friends and then got a baby name book!  Here are the pics!

                                          7 weeks

                                          9 weeks

                                          12 weeks 6 days

                                          Sweet little legs :)

Now the fun begins!!

Oh, I also made the big announcement on Facebook today...before I even left the doctor's office.  I have loved seeing everyone's responses.  It seems that everyone is truly happy for us!

Girls Trip to Fredericksburg

Lindsay, Christie, and I planned a trip to Fredericksburg to visit the wineries.  I couldn't do any of the tastings, but I still had a blast!  I had never been to Fredericksburg before, so I was really looking forward to going.  Christie was our driver and trip planner.  She had everything mapped out.  We met at her house and we all brought road snacks for the drive up.  We pretty much broke into the snacks as soon as we started driving!  We visited several wineries and I just loved the area!  That night, we rented our own little house and cooked dinner and had fun visiting late into the night.  We all LOVED the little house we stayed in.  It was so cute on the inside.  It had two bedrooms with king sized beds and 1 1/2 baths.  It was perfect for us!  The next day we drove around the town of Fredericksburg, ate lunch and then headed home.  It was a quick trip, but I loved it!  I can't wait to go back and stay longer!

So, I just couldn't wait to start taking belly pics!  Here are weeks 7-12:

First OB Appointment (7-5-2011)

Yesterday, July 5th, was my first OB appointment. When I first arrived, the nurse called me back and I did the usuals...weight, blood pressure, and urine sample (my nurse said my urine looked "beautiful"....ha! I'm glad Ive been drinking tons of water!). Then I went back to a room. Chris didn't come with me to this appointment because I wasn't sure what all we'd be doing. Afterall, I did just have an ultrasound last week. Anyway, he just talked to me about how I've been feeling, and what to expect in the first trimester. He wanted to see if he could hear the heartbeat with a doppler. He said he wouldn't be surprised if he couldn't hear it yet, especially since I have a lot of scar tissue in my abdomen from my previous surgeries. He put the doppler on my stomach and right away I heard "whoosh, whoosh, whoosh, whoosh!" I was so excited to hear it again! He said it sounded great! So I go at 12 weeks to have a sonogram for what's called "First Screening." It's an extensive ultrasound to screen for various birth defects. I'm praying our little baby looks perfect....I know he/she will! I can't wait to see what the baby looks like then! I will then go back to my OB two weeks after that. I just thank God every day for this precious baby He has given us. I feel soooooo lucky!
