Pearce's sweet teacher, Mrs. Worrell has gone on maternity leave. We were sad to see her go, but happy for her to begin this new adventure. Before she left, several of the classroom moms and I decided to throw her a surprise baby shower. It was so much fun and came together perfectly! We all contributed to a huge gift basket of new mommy must haves. I helped the kids fill out a questionnaire about what makes a good mommy and made it into a book....these were hilarious! I also made these cute utensil holders that looked like a little hair bow. One of the kinder teachers took her to Starbucks while the kids were at Specials and that's when we came in and set up in another teacher's room. We had to quickly go through the kids backpacks to get any gifts and then I left a note with the librarian to give to Mrs. Worrell when she picked up her class. It said "A surprise awaits you and your class. Please go to room #1111. See you soon!" When she and the kids walked in, she immediately started crying, which meant we all started crying! It was so sweet because she said she absolutely had no idea about this! The kids got to eat their snacks and then they decorated diapers for her middle of the night stash, and then they watched her open her gits. Every gift opened had the cutest reaction and an "AWWWWWWWWWW" from the kids :) We ended the shower with seeing who could diaper a baby better....blindfolded :) The boys were cheering for Mr. Worrell and the girls were cheering for Mrs. Worrell. We all had so much fun with this. Pearce has adjusted well to his sub, Mrs. Trejo. She is really sweet and doing such a great job!
Mrs. Worrell and Pearce on her last day....there were lots of tears from everyone! I couldn't have asked for a better teacher for Pearce's first "real school" experience. She was the exact personality type Pearce needed.....loving, fun, organized, clear expectations, and lots of patience. Pearce went from only knowing a few letters/sounds to being able to read by the time she left. She took extra time to work with him and because of her, he is a reader now!
The 100th day of school was exciting with lots of fun activities during the week. The kids were supposed to dress like they were 100 years old. I got some gray hair spray and then found everything else at our house which made putting his outfit together easy! Pearce was so excited to get up and get dressed Friday morning. We made him a gray mustache and gray eyebrows and then I added some wrinkles to his forehead and he was ready to go! He was adamant that an old man needed a cane and wanted to take his walking stick.....I was adamant that he would cause serious damage and angry feelings from the teachers :) so we compromised with a wrapping paper roll. He looked soooooo cute! I was calling him "Grandpa" while we were getting dressed but he finally told me to stop because "Papa and Pops are grandpas and they don't look like this because they are not old people!" Yes, that's right Pearce :)
Just some cute pics of my little Kindergartener
Field Day fun! I volunteered and got to eat lunch with Pearce. The kids had so much fun!
Right before Spring Break, the kids were asked to build a Leprechaun trap in hopes of catching something during on St. Patrick's Day.....when they came back to school, the kids found little green footprints all over their traps and a bag of Lucky Charms cereal was left for each child :)
Texas Day at school! The Kindergarteners all dressed like cowboys and cowgirls and got to participate in lots of fun western activities! Pearce had to borrow a hat and boots from a friend because he had outgrown his! My little cowboy looked so handsome!
The mystery of the cut up shirt. I don't think I will ever find out what happened. When I picked Pearce up from school, he was holding his backpack in front of him. When he got in the car, I noticed his shirt. His shirt had one giant hole in the middle and tons of little cuts all over. He kept telling me he fell down. I told him I knew he was not telling me the truth, but he would not budge in his story. He kept going back and forth between falling down and just not knowing how the holes got there. No amount of threatening, time out, being sweet and saying "I don't care, I just want the truth" would get him to tell me. I asked his teacher, but she had absolutely no idea either. She said she gives all the kids hugs at the end of the day and his shirt absolutely did not have that big hole in it when she dismissed him to go home. So, the only thing I know for sure is that he had scissor cuts all over his shirt, but he stretched one of them in the car rider line and made the giant hole. One thing that is for sure.....he is one stubborn little guy!!!
I've gotten to sub in Pearce's class a few times and it is always so much fun! His class is sooo sweet and it's fun to see how he interacts with his friends. Pearce is always good for me and doesn't try to get special attention....although I do give him lots of extra hugs and kisses :)
