Ghost Town!

I love taking Pearce on little adventures outside of town.  Today we went to Manor, TX which is about 45 minutes from us, to explore an 1800's western ghost town.  I, of course, had to dress Pearce in his finest western apparel....his new Woody t-shirt, jeans, cowboy hat, and his cowboy boots....even if they were a little snug!  I woke Pearce up early...for him....at 8:00 so that I could put him down for a nap by 12:00.  Then I woke him up from his nap at 2:30 and by 3:15, we were on the road!  On the way there Pearce kept saying "Dosts...oooh, pooky!"  We got there and were ready to explore!  It was a little "town" of run down buildings...jail, bank, barn, house, etc...  Pearce had so much fun going from building to building.  There was even a little wooden playscape with a slide and a couple of swings!  A little later, Christie, Mike and Ridley met us there and we grabbed some dinner at the grill then did some more exploring.  There was a wooden maze that Pearce and Ridley just loved!  They would both run after Mike who was leading us through and Christie and I would just follow the boys.  Afterwards, some live music started up, so we just sat on the benches outside and listened to them.  We were there from 4:00-7:00 and Pearce would have been so happy to stay even longer!

Pearce at 2 years old

Lately there have been so many funny things that Pearce has done or said.  I swear, every day, he says or does something new.  Here are a few things that I want to remember:

*Whenever I pick up Pearce from school, I always ask if he had fun and what did he do.  Several weeks ago, when I picked him up and asked him about school, he said "Mommy, I fall down. I got boo-boo.  Laura hug you."  First of all it was so funny, that he was able to tell me all of this.  Second of all, he would tell me this story over and over....like several times a day for about a week!  But what I loved is that whenever he got to the part about how he had a boo-boo, he would smile and laugh a little because I never say "boo-boo"  I always say "ouchie."  So, the next week at school, I told his teachers this and one of his teachers, Miss Laura, said he had fallen in Movement Class and was crying and she picked him up and asked if he got a boo-boo and then loved on him :)

*I think Halloween is going to be his favorite holiday because he still talks about "pooky".  He saw a spider web in the garage and said "Oh, pider, that's pooky!"  He says "pooky" in a lower voice :)

*Last week, I picked Pearce up and was holding him and trying to hurry up and get out of the house.  He said "Oh no Mommy, I slippin'!"  Haha....I would never drop you Pearce :)

*I took Pearce to McDonald's one morning and ordered us the Big Breakfast Platter to split.  When I gave him his plate with scrambled eggs, pancakes, biscuit, and sausage, Pearce said "Oh, Papa like that!  Papa LOVES sausage.  I don't like sausage, sausage picey!"

*Pearce loves Frosted Mini Wheats cereal.  I break them in half and he will usually eat a good size bowl of them.  He picks one up, puts it on his spoon, and then eats it.  He asked me what the white frosting was and I said it was sugar.  He said "Oh sugar, I like sugar, sugar loves you."

*The other day, Pearce said "Thank you ma'am!"

*Sometimes I'll be in the the laundry room for a few minutes or another room while Pearce is playing in the living room and then I'll hear him say "Air Mommy doe?"  I love that :)

*He has also been using the word "need" a lot... "I need BB"  "I need water"  "I need nilk"

*When we were at Target this morning, Pearce was humming (as he was licking the dish soap bottle) and he said "Mommy in singin' like Ka-Hannah."  Katherine Hannah is a little girl in his play group who loves to sing :)

*I needed to fix dinner the other night, so I put on a new movie called Brother Bear.  It's a Disney movie about a bear and I thought it would entertain him for a few minutes while I got his dinner ready.  Well, he loved this movie!  He stopped watching just long enough to eat his dinner and then he said he wanted to watch the bear.  He went and sat in his chair and said "Mommy sit riiiiight here." and pointed next to his chair.  We watched the rest of the movie together and at the very end, the credits started going but I was listening to the song that was going along with the credits...and then I heard a little whimper and looked over to see Pearce's mouth turned down, little lip quivering and tears running down his face.  As soon as I picked him up, he laid his head on my shoulder and started really crying.  I asked him if he was sad the movie was over and he said yes and then he said "Mommy rock you."  Poor little guy!

*Sometimes Pearce will say "Ewwww, that's yucky!"  Sometimes he is right...like with a bug or something.  Other times it's a pair of shoes, or dinner I've cooked :)

*I guess he's heard me tell people that he likes to suck on his BB's because now whenever I rock him for his nap or at bedtime he says "I suck on BB" and then sucks on BB :)

*I always know when Pearce needs to go poo poo....he will walk away and if I look at him he will say "No Mommy, bye bye" and wave at me to look away.  One time we were reading some books and he had to go and he walked to the other side of the living room and said "Mommy read book."

*He will also tell me "I need new diaper."  Potty training may start this summer!

*And what I love most is that he still loves for me to rock him during nap time or bedtime.  He snuggles up to me and sucks on BB and just gets so relaxed.  Sometimes he's not quite ready for me to put him to bed, so he will say "No Mommy, rock you."  Lately, he's been rubbing my neck while I sing to him, I guess to feel the vibration :)  We've also begun a new nap/bedtime ritual.  First, he always wants to give Sissy and Otis a kiss, so I put Pearce in bed and then go get the dogs and lift each up for him to give them a kiss between the slats of his bed.  Then he says "Tuck you in."  To do this, I tuck each BB under each arm, then get his other blanket (one that Mama made him when he was a baby) and I lay it over him and tuck it under his feet and under both sides of his body.  Sometimes when I walk out I hear "Uh oh, uh oh!"  And I go back in to see the blanket has come out from under his feet, so I tuck his feet in again .  I love our little bedtime ritual :)

Mama's Visit

Mama came for a quick visit on Thursday.  We always have a fun time together!  When Pearce woke up from his nap, Mama was here and ready to play!  He got to show Mama his golf cart and what a good driver he is, we played outside...a lot, played with the hose, went to the playground, Mama took Pearce to get ice cream and munchkins, we went to the mall and got new sandals plus rode the train, played at the bounce house, rode the carousel, and played at the play area.  Whew....we did a lot!  We also, took a little trip to the doctor's office on Saturday morning.  My poor little guy started running a fever on Wednesday night and it hasn't let up.  He would feel pretty good after I gave him Motrin, but when his fever would return he felt pretty puny.  I do want Pearce to start feeling better, but I have to admit, I have loved the extra snuggles I've gotten from him.  Today, all he wanted was for me to hold him and we just watched movies together.  I did love that Mom got to go to the doctor with us.  Pearce has always loved going to the doctor and Mom got to see that in action.  When we got there, he played in the waiting room and then when they called us back, Pearce just walked right in all by himself.  While we waited for the doctor, he gave Woody a check up and got some loving from Mama.  Then when the doctor came in, Pearce just sat on my lap and let her look him over.  He was wearing his new Toy Story shirt I had just gotten him and Pearce kept showing the doctor Woody and Bullseye on his shirt :)  After the doctor, we dropped off his prescription at Walgreens and then went to Starbucks to get a little bite while we waited.  Pearce just loved eating his danish and drinking his milk.  Mom and I kept talking about how good he was being.  Afterwards we went to the mall to get Pearce some new sandals and we just had to let him ride the choo choo train....and the carousel...and play at the bounce house....and play at the mall play area :)  Even though Pearce didn't feel his best, we still had so much fun with Mama here.  We love you Mama!!!

Bye Bye Bottle

Ever since Pearce was born, he took a bottle.  I remember giving him his very first bottle and I also remember giving him his very last bottle...just a few days ago at a little over 2 years old.  I never thought it was a big deal that Pearce still liked to take a bottle, but others did, which is fine, it was just a difference of opinion.  I knew his bottle was a comfort to him, and I just honestly did not think it was a problem...and I still don't.  I knew he would give it up when he was ready and did not feel rushed to take it away.  However, an opportunity presented itself, and I decided to take it.  Last weekend, I was in Dallas for a girl's weekend and then Pearce was going to stay a few extra days with Ashley and Nathan and I was going to take Charlotte back to Austin with me...we were switching kids for a few days :)  I asked Ashley if she would like to try to wean Pearce off of his bottle while he was there.  She was definitely up for the challenge!  We both agreed it would probably go better if she did it and not me.  Well, from Sunday to Wednesday, Ashley did not give him to his wanting a bottle.  She said at bedtime he would ask for it and cry a little, but she just said there are no more bottles, but he could have milk in a sippy cup.  Ashley said he really liked using Nathan's sippy cups, so that really helped.  She said it really wasn't as hard as we were thinking it would be.  I got Pearce back last Wednesday and I was a little worried about how bedtime would go with me.  I did go ahead and put all of his bottles in the attic so that there was no chance I would be tempted to give him one.  Well, Wednesday night was awful!  He screamed and cried and screamed and cried for his bottle.  It really broke my heart, but I knew I could not undo what Ashley had done.  I just rocked him and he finally calmed down and went to sleep.  Each day he has asked for his bottle, but has not had anymore crying fits for it.  So, no more bottles for my little guy.  It does make me sad, but I am so glad Ashley was the one to wean Pearce from it.  She did the hard work for me, and I am thankful for that.
